Without Walls "Out-and-About" Program

This
is In Flight's newest program, serving individuals with developmental
and/or physical disabilities. It is even more innovative and
creative than the Day Habilitation program. Pursuing activities
based upon the wants, including dreams, interests and abilities
of the participants is the primary goal of this program. They
are directed to choose activities that provide opportunities
for community inclusion, participating and contribution.
The individuals served by going out-and-about can explore a
number of opportunities available to them, while utilizing both
the indoors and outdoors. The purpose is to help the participants
become good citizens and members of their community. Based on
the person's desires and support needs, any combination of outings
may be selected. For example, an individual may volunteer at
his/her church, attend an art class and go to a fitness center.
This option allows people to participate in various ways in
the community. Volunteering in an integrated setting provides
opportunities for regular interactions with individuals who do
not have disabilities and are not paid caregivers. These situations
may lead to rewarding connections and relationships and even
eventual paid employment.
